U P S DIGHWAT: A Rural Upper Primary School in Pratapgarh

U P S DIGHWAT, a government-run upper primary school, stands in the rural heart of Pratapgarh district in Uttar Pradesh, serving students from classes 6 to 8. Established in 2009, the school operates under the Department of Education, catering to a co-educational student body. The school does not offer a pre-primary section, and the medium of instruction is Hindi.

Infrastructure and Resources

The school building, though built in 2009, is not enclosed by a boundary wall. It lacks electricity, leaving students dependent on hand pumps for drinking water. However, the school boasts two classrooms and two additional rooms for non-teaching activities. There is a separate room for the head teacher, ensuring dedicated space for administrative functions.

While the school is equipped with one boys’ toilet and one girls’ toilet, both in good condition, there is no playground for physical activity. There is no library, and consequently, no books are available for students. The school also does not have computers, nor a computer-aided learning lab, and does not offer ramps for access for disabled students.

Teaching Staff and Academic Focus

The school currently employs three male teachers, who guide students through the curriculum. These teachers are the school’s primary instructional resource, as there are no female teachers or pre-primary teachers. The school has chosen to offer a meals program, ensuring that the provided meals are prepared on the school premises, a significant contribution to the overall well-being of the students.

Future Possibilities

Though the school currently faces challenges, the presence of dedicated teachers and a commitment to providing meals demonstrates a strong focus on student needs. The absence of certain facilities, such as electricity and a computer lab, highlights the need for further investment.

Conclusion

U P S DIGHWAT, despite its limitations, represents an essential resource for the rural community. The school’s presence highlights the ongoing need for educational infrastructure in rural areas and underscores the importance of continued investment in school resources to ensure a robust and thriving learning environment for all students.
