MAHURA P.S.: A Rural Primary School in Odisha

Located in the village of MAHURA, MAHURA P.S. is a government-run primary school serving the surrounding community. Established in 1954, this co-educational school caters to students from Class 1 to Class 5, providing a foundational education for young learners.

The school building, while classified as government-owned, has a unique feature - its walls are constructed with hedges, providing a natural and rustic charm. It features two classrooms, a library stocked with 218 books, and a girls’ toilet. Despite its rural setting, the school is managed by the Department of Education, signifying the commitment to providing quality education to all.

The school utilizes Odia as the primary language of instruction, ensuring that students receive education in their native tongue. The learning environment is supported by two dedicated male teachers, who strive to impart knowledge and nurture the young minds under their charge.

Despite lacking certain modern amenities, such as computer-aided learning, electricity, and a playground, the school focuses on providing a strong foundation in basic education. The library, though modest, provides access to books and encourages a love for reading among the students.

While the school doesn’t offer a pre-primary section, it does provide meals to its students, prepared on-site. This ensures that students have a nutritious meal during their school day, fostering a healthy learning environment.

The school, while not residential, prioritizes providing a safe and secure learning environment. It lacks ramps for disabled students and doesn’t offer classes beyond the primary level. However, its commitment to providing a quality education in a rural setting makes it a valuable asset to the community.

Despite its limited resources, MAHURA P.S. is a testament to the dedication of the teachers and the Department of Education in ensuring that even in remote areas, children have access to fundamental education. As the school continues to serve the MAHURA community, its simple yet impactful presence contributes to the betterment of the lives of its students and the wider community.
