BALIKUDA PS: A Rural Primary School in Odisha

BALIKUDA PS is a government-run primary school located in the rural area of Odisha, India. It is a co-educational institution offering education from Class 1 to Class 5. The school was established in 1955 and provides a learning environment for young students in the community.

The school building, though government-owned, is modest, boasting two classrooms equipped with two boys’ toilets and two girls’ toilets. The absence of computer-aided learning and electricity highlights the need for more resources. Despite these challenges, BALIKUDA PS has a library stocked with 20 books and drinking water is provided through hand pumps. The presence of ramps for disabled students showcases a commitment to inclusivity.

Academic Highlights:

The primary focus of BALIKUDA PS is on delivering instruction in Odia. The school currently has two teachers, one male and one female, dedicated to educating its students. The “Others” designation for the board of class 10th suggests that the school follows a unique curriculum tailored to its context. The “Others” designation for the board for class 10+2 indicates that the school does not offer higher secondary education. However, BALIKUDA PS stands out by providing meals prepared on school premises, ensuring that students have access to nutritious food during the day.

Challenges and Opportunities:

The absence of a playground and a pre-primary section signifies a need for further development to provide a complete educational experience. The lack of electricity and computer-aided learning poses significant obstacles in the modern learning environment. These challenges provide an opportunity for BALIKUDA PS to seek partnerships and resources to enhance its infrastructure and teaching methods.

Embracing the Future:

With dedicated teachers, a functioning library, and commitment to inclusive education, BALIKUDA PS has a strong foundation. Investing in resources like electricity, technology, and play spaces can help create a dynamic learning environment that encourages creativity and academic growth. By addressing its challenges and capitalizing on its strengths, BALIKUDA PS can continue to provide a valuable educational service to the children of its community, ensuring a brighter future for generations to come.
