ALPS THANKAYAM: A Glimpse into a Rural Primary School in Kerala

Located in the heart of Kerala, ALPS THANKAYAM is a private aided school catering to the educational needs of the local community. Established in 1928, this primary school offers education from Class 1 to Class 4, focusing on providing quality education to children in a rural setting.

The school boasts a total of 9 classrooms, equipped with basic amenities like electricity, drinking water sourced from a well, and even ramps for disabled students, reflecting a commitment to inclusivity. The school also boasts a well-stocked library, housing an impressive 688 books, encouraging a love for reading among students. However, there is no playground, highlighting the need for additional resources to enhance the school’s facilities.

ALPS THANKAYAM operates as a co-educational school, with a dedicated team of five teachers – one male teacher and four female teachers – ensuring a diverse and supportive learning environment. Instruction is provided in Malayalam, fostering a connection to the local language and culture. The school utilizes a “Others” board for Class 10, suggesting a diverse curriculum tailored to the needs of the students.

A significant aspect of the school’s operations is the provision of meals prepared on the premises. This ensures that students receive a nutritious meal during their time at the school, contributing to their overall well-being. Notably, the school currently does not offer a pre-primary section, but this could be a potential area of future development.

ALPS THANKAYAM, despite being a rural school, demonstrates a commitment to providing quality education within its limitations. The presence of a well-equipped library, dedicated teachers, and a focus on the local language and culture are key indicators of its dedication to shaping young minds. However, the lack of a playground highlights the need for further investment in facilities to enhance the learning experience and provide a more holistic environment for the students.

The school’s dedication to education, evident in its infrastructure and the commitment of its staff, suggests a promising future for ALPS THANKAYAM. With continued support and investment, the school has the potential to further enhance its facilities, broaden its curriculum, and continue to provide valuable educational opportunities to the children of the community.
