ALAN MEMORIAL LPS: A Rural Primary School in Meghalaya

Nestled in the rural landscape of KHLIEHRIAT block in EAST JAINTIA HILLS district of Meghalaya, ALAN MEMORIAL LPS is a government-run primary school offering education from Class 1 to Class 5. Established in 2009, the school serves as a vital educational hub for the local community.

The school provides a co-educational environment with an attached pre-primary section, catering to the needs of young learners. With a strong emphasis on English as the medium of instruction, ALAN MEMORIAL LPS strives to equip students with the necessary language skills for their academic journey.

The school boasts a well-maintained infrastructure with five classrooms, ensuring ample space for learning. While it lacks a dedicated library, the school building houses two additional rooms for non-teaching activities. To facilitate smooth operations, the school is equipped with a separate room for the Head Master/Teacher.

Recognizing the importance of a secure learning environment, ALAN MEMORIAL LPS has a sturdy Pucca boundary wall. The school also benefits from a reliable electricity supply, ensuring a conducive learning atmosphere.

However, the school faces a challenge in providing access to clean drinking water, as it lacks a functional water source. Nevertheless, the school prioritizes the well-being of students with dedicated toilet facilities, featuring one boys’ toilet and two girls’ toilets, all in functional condition.

Despite the absence of a playground and a computer-aided learning lab, ALAN MEMORIAL LPS focuses on providing a comprehensive educational experience. The school actively participates in providing mid-day meals, prepared and served within the school premises, ensuring students receive a nutritious and balanced diet.

While the school’s efforts towards providing a safe, functional, and nurturing learning environment are commendable, it faces some challenges. The lack of a playground limits students’ opportunities for physical activity and recreation. Additionally, the absence of a computer lab and a library limits access to digital resources and literature, which are crucial for 21st-century learning.

The school’s future success hinges on addressing these challenges. Investing in a playground and a computer lab would significantly enhance the learning experience for the students. Building a library and stocking it with books would promote a love for reading and broaden students’ horizons.

ALAN MEMORIAL LPS remains a valuable resource for the local community, providing quality education to its young learners. By focusing on addressing the identified challenges, the school can further strengthen its capacity to nurture bright minds and empower future generations.
